There are many private and public buses available of the Maharashtra State Transport Corporation while traveling from Pune or Mumbai to Ratnagiri. As most of these buses travel overnight, you can reach Ratnagiri early the next morning.
You can reach the Mumbai-Goa highway from Pune through Mulshi’s Tamhini Ghat, Bhor’s Varandha Ghat, or Wai-Mahabaleshwar- Poladpur Ghat. There are many tourist spots on this path and you can visit these spots while traveling through these Ghats. This distance is 300kms.
From Mumbai, you can travel from the Mumbai-Goa highway to Panvel-Vadkhal-Mangaon-Lonere-Bharne Naka (Khed) and go to the Parshuram Ghat, Chiplun-Sangameshwar-Nivali Phata (Ganpatipule)- Hatkhamba and reach Ratnagiri. This distance is 347kms.
From Goa, you can reach Ratnagiri after crossing the Sindhudurga district. This distance is approximately 234kms.
As the distance between Kolhapur and Ratnagiri is hardly 132kms, many buses of the Maharashtra State Transport Corporation are available on this route.
The route of Konkan railway begins from Panvel near Mumbai and it goes through Roha in the Raigad district and reaches Ratnagiri. The stations such as Khed, Anjani, Chiplun, Kamthe, Savarda, Arvali road, Sanagmeshwar, Ukshi, Bhoke, Ratnagiri, Nivasar, Aadvali, Rajapur road etc are on this route. It’s a magical experience of the journey through the green forests, the twisted tracks of the mountains, crossing the long tunnels, the creek bridges on the rivers and the beautiful villages of Konkan on this Konkan railway.
The nearest airport to Ratnagiri is in Mumbai and Goa. But a new airport is being built in Chippi in the Sindhugurga district near Ratnagiri. Once the construction of this airport is completed, air transport to Ratnagiri will become easier.
